As a nutrition coach, I am asked this question regularly. My go-to answer is no, however, some people might feel confused or surprised, based on the myth in the weight loss industry that carbs are evil and need to be cut out of your life.
The true answer to fat loss is decreasing overall calories instead of a certain food, food group or category.
The reason people do see weight loss when cutting out carbs completely
β‘οΈthey have decreased their calories tremendously, in a very quick manner.
So yes, you can see weight loss initially.
But is it something you want to do long term? π€
You get your energy from carbs. So they will find their way back.
Instead of cutting out carbs completely, try one of these 3 thingsβ¬οΈ
1οΈβ£ Pair carbs with a protein source and healthy fats. These nutrients can help keep you feeling full and satisfied while reducing cravings for carbs.
2οΈβ£ Load up on non-starchy veggies like leafy greens, broccoli, capsicum, mushrooms... these are low in carbs but high in fibre and nutrients
3οΈβ£ Choose low-carb alternatives, for example, a pulse or veggie pasta where you're not just getting a simple carb, but getting in protein and fibre too.
I made this salmon & sundried tomato pasta recently and will definitely be making it again!
